SMARTeacher
A new educational game for kids, Prodigy by SMARTeacher, uses gaming technology to help kids build math skills. Unlike other educational software, the game responds to the kid’s emotions, making it an interactive experience that can help kids learn better. Kids create an avatar and battle magical creatures by answering math questions. The game is designed for ages 4 and up.
The game was developed by Rohan Mahimker as part of his fourth-year project at the University of Waterloo. He and his co-creator, Alex Peters, soon began looking for ways to commercialize their work. They founded SMARTeacher in 2011 and are now employing 65 people. In the near future, the company plans to launch into new markets and expand into other subject areas.
The software is a free self-paced math game designed for younger learners. It’s currently used by more than 20 million people worldwide. The game is based on the Ontario curriculum and is aligned with the standards for children in first through eighth grade. The company’s mission is to raise educational standards around the world. It’s aimed at helping children learn the math equations they need to know.
SMARTedge
The SMARTedge Prodeg project aims to identify opportunities for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in smaller cities within metropolitan regions. These edge cities are integral to the fabric of the metropolitan area and may serve as important laboratories for developing green economic solutions. The aim of the project is to help edge cities develop policies and strategies for low carbon economies. The project involves eight metropolitan partners to transfer good practices and exchange experiences in order to make edge cities more efficient.
The Intel Smart Edge for Developers Experience Kit enables developers to create edge applications tailored to specific use cases. The kit includes a Kubernetes edge-native kernel and reference applications and implementations. With the help of these tools, developers can develop edge applications and implement new services for cloud computing environments.
